about me

Hello! I’m Scarlet Keiller (they/them), an autistic multi-disciplinary artist currently based in Glasgow, Scotland. After I graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 2021 with a degree in painting, I experienced a period of extreme burnout and stopped creating visual work altogether, instead channeling the emotional and physical upheaval I was experiencing into songwriting. While escaping an emotionally abusive relationship, navigating trauma and entering the workforce as a disabled person, I used songwriting to express my emotions and gain a deeper understanding of how I felt.

Over the years since, this practice of self-therapy has only grown. I fully believe that for me, music is a force of healing, communication and deeper connection that would otherwise be unavailable to me as an autistic person. When I don’t know what to say, when I don’t know how I feel, music always provides me with an answer.

I have started to re-integrate visual art into my practice as a way of having fun and relieving stress. Instead of focusing on my emotions and memories as I do when I write, I tend towards making surreal and absurd images that show more of my personality and sense of humour. You can explore my work through the menu at the top of the screen, and feel free to contact me if you have any enquiries.
